Çorovodë (Albanian definite form: Çorovoda) is a town and a former municipality in Berat County, Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became a municipal unit and the seat of the municipality Skrapar. It was the seat of the former Skrapar District. The population at the 2023 census was 3,918.
The river Osum passes through the city. Upstream it forms canyons and caves. The river provides opportunities for kayaking and other aquatic sport.
The Osum is a river in southern Albania, one of the source rivers of the Seman. It is 161 km (100 mi) long and its drainage basin is 2,073 km (800 sq mi). Its average discharge is 32.5 m/s (1,150 cu ft/s). Its source is in the southwestern part of the Korçë County, near the village of Vithkuq at an altitude of 1,050 metres (3,440 ft). It flows initially south to the Kolonjë municipality, then west to Çepan, and northwest through Çorovodë where it flows through the famous Osum Canyon, Poliçan, Berat and Urë Vajgurore. It joins the Devoll near Kuçovë, to form Seman River. The discharge of the river is reported to vary between 5.11 and 74.11 m/s (180 and 2,617 cu ft/s).
Skrapar (Albanian definite form: Skrapari) is a municipality in Berat County, southern Albania. It was created in 2015 by the merger of the former municipalities Bogovë, Çepan, Çorovodë, Gjerbës, Leshnjë, Potom, Qendër Skrapar, Vendreshë and Zhepë. The seat of the municipality is the town Çorovodë. The total population is 12,403 (2011 census), in a total area of 832.04 km. It covers part of the area of the former Skrapar District, without the town Poliçan.
It is also roughly contiguous with the Albanian "ethnographic region" of Skrapar which is known for its folklore, its raki production, its high rate of those belonging to the Bektashi order and its scenic mountains.
The Osum Gorge (Albanian: Kanioni i Osumit) is a river gorge in southern Albania, near the town of Çorovodë. The river Osum, which passes through the town of Berat, flows through the canyon.
The Osumi river gorge is one of the most spectacular natural attractions of Albania. During the spring, high water from melting snow makes it possible to explore the whole length of the gorge from the river. Spring is also the best time to view the many waterfalls in the gorges, which thunder from above as explorers pass below on boats. The rapids are Class II, so one does not need prior white water experience to navigate them. At the end of the summer, when the water is lower, the full length of the gorge is not navigable, but there are various walks with opportunities for swimming in various pools and streams.
Qendër Skrapar is a former municipality in Berat County, central Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became a subdivision of the municipality Skrapar. The municipal unit surrounds the town Çorovodë. The population at the 2011 census was 2,545.
Skrapar District (Albanian: Rrethi i Skraparit) was one of the 36 districts of Albania, which were dissolved in July 2000 and replaced by 12 newly created counties. It had a population of 29,874 in 2001, and an area of 775 km (299 sq mi). It was in the centre of the country, and its capital was the town of Çorovodë. Its territory is now part of Berat County: the municipalities of Skrapar and Poliçan (partly).
